‘Cooler’ gambles on bow

Kramer gives thanks before the holiday

HOLLYWOOD — Lions Gate rolled the dice on its preem for “The Cooler” Nov. 24 at the Egyptian Theater.

Before the gambling pic unspooled, Lions Gate vice chair Michael Burns talked about its long and controversial journey, recalling tough Sundance negotiations with Ed Pressman and Cassian Elwes.

“Making a deal with them is difficult,” Burns joked. “It’s kind of like trying to make a deal with the Menendez brothers.”

Helmer Wayne Kramer then proceeded to call practically half the aud up to the stage for thanks — Elwes and Pressman included — before the lights went down.

Afterward, pic’s Alec Baldwin and Maria Bello mingled among card tables in the lobby bash. Also on hand: Lions Gate’s Tom Ortenberg; co-writer Frank Hannah; pic’s Ron Livingston and Estella Warren ; plus Carrie-Anne Moss.
