Burton’s ‘Fish’ tale

McGregor, Zanuck cite relationships with dad as draw

Tim Burton didn’t have to do a lot of trawling to lure creatives to his “Big Fish.”

During the final installment of the Variety Screening Series Monday night, star Ewan McGregor and producer Richard Zanuck both said the script reminded them of their relationships with their fathers.

But Danny DeVito said he didn’t need emotional ties in order to say yes to Burton.

“He always sends me a drawing of my character when he sends the script,” he said. “As long as he puts enough hair on it, I’m in.”

DeVito said his biggest challenge in the pic was doing a nude scene.

“My biggest challenge was standing in front of Danny” during that scene, McGregor riposted.

Pete Hammond moderated the ArcLight sesh. Other panelists were producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen and thesp Alison Lohman.
