In a twist of irony, the Webby Awards, which honor the finest Internet sites, are still around seven years after first being held in 1997. Meanwhile, many of its honorees are nothing but faded logos on laundry-day T-shirts. This week, I’m going to take a look at the candidates in the television category, as selected by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Vote for your favorite at www.webbyawards.com.
Webby TV Nominee 2: CartoonNetwork.com http://www.cartoonnetwork.com
You might expect Cartoon Network to leap off the screen, honk your nose, and then dash off over the horizon, but it is in fact a very well-behaved, organized site, with a wealth of graphics and games. I can’t imagine that this site is any less short-staffed than the rest of sites out there, but the graphic-intensive nature of the site shows that there must be some very hard-working artists behind the scenes here. The site uses flash extensively, but still manages to load relatively quickly. They also have all sorts of branded goodies to sell, if you never really gave up wearing Underoos.
