Viv U unloads Emusic

Digital music service Emusic has been sold by Vivendi Universal to private equity group Dimensional Associates for an undisclosed sum. Sale is reportedly part of efforts by Vivendi to unload its online assets, which also include MP3.com.

Emusic is facing heavily hyped new competition in the online music space from companies such as Apple, Napster and MusicMatch. In conjunction with the acquisition, it announced new limits on its service, which previously allowed unlimited downloads as long as a user was subscribed.
