Dec. 20th date passes for console rollout

BEIJING — Sony has delayed the release of its popular PlayStation 2 videogame system in China for the second time, again without explanation.

Game console was originally slated to launch in October, but was delayed for unspecified technical reasons. Sony then announced a shelf date of Dec. 20, but that also passed.

Company made the announcement via its Chinese-language Web site.

Kei Kodera, president of sales and marketing, Sony East Asia, had said that the original delay had nothing to do with fear over piracy of PS2 games, that it “was only to do with technical and procedural issues.”

Sony did not announce suggested retail pricing for the console in connection with either launch date.
