Court TV has tapped production shingle K2 Pictures for net’s second “Smoking Gun TV” special.
First installment was produced by Jimco (“The Tom Green Show”). “We wanted to get a fresh set of eyes on the material,” said Lynne Kirby, net’s VP of alternative programming. “We wanted to experiment and think of more ways to translate the Web site to TV.”
Debut installment bowed Aug. 20 and yielded 723,000 total viewers.
Next show will air Dec. 16 and take on the format of a year-end special, with an award component, featuring the best work from the eponymous Web site.
“Our hope is that it will be a long-term relationship,” Kirby said of the deal with K2.
Currently, “Smoking Gun TV” is slated as a series of quarterly specials, although there has been talk of expanding it into a weekly series.
Robert Katz and Jerry Kupfer will exec produce the spec. Katz’s credits include live events such as “The VH1 Music Awards” and “Saturday Night Live 25th Anniversary.” Kupfer was a producer of “TV Nation.”
