World Brief

Toppers from Germany’s major broadcasters on Monday signed an agreement for the introduction of digital TV technology in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Following the introduction of digital TV in Berlin earlier this year, Digital Video Broadcast Terrestrial will successively unspool in northern and western Germany in 2004, lifting the number of terrestrial channels from 16 to 24.

Roughly one third of Germany’s population will have access to digital by the end of 2004.
