Activision announced a long-term exclusive partnership with Spark Unlimited to make the first title in a new first-person action franchise, “Call of Duty,” for the vidgame publisher.
Spark is a recently founded Los Angeles development studio comprised largely of talent that had worked on several installments of Electronic Arts’ hit WWII first-person shooter series “Medal of Honor.”
Activision showed the press the first fruits of Spark’s “Call of Duty” work last week, with a raucous and visually remarkable scene from a World War II battle. Activision said the “Call of Duty” franchise will cover a wide range of 20th-century battles, not just WWII.
The first Spark game is slated for a 2004 release, one of three Spark has contracted to develop for consoles.
