Digital music royalty org spun off

SoundExchange, a division of the RIAA that collects and distributes royalties on digital music, is spinning out on its own: Org is becoming an independent entity to be run by a board of nine artists and artists’ representatives and nine record label reps.

Move comes as more and more legal online music services are launching, generating greater need for distribution of digital royalties. To date, SoundExchange has distributed nearly $10 million in royalties.
