Veteran online entertainment exec Alan Citron — former prexy of Ticketmaster Online, USA Networks Interactive and MusicNet — has landed at online movie seller Movielink.com as senior VP of marketing, reporting to CEO Jim Ramo.
Citron will oversee efforts to beef up the brand, customer base and product offerings of Movielink, which is backed by five major studios and sells digital downloads of features and other video material online.
“We are thrilled to welcome someone of Alan’s caliber to our executive team,” Ramo said. “His strategic abilities and knowledge of the industry will play an instrumental role in growing the Movielink service and brand.”
Citron will oversee Movielink’s divisions for sales, marketing, product management, research, customer service and content.
Citron most recently was an exec at Key3 Media, best known for its Comdex computer trade show and related publications and online operations. He left Key3 last month as it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy under new ownership, a new CEO and a new name, Medialive International.
Citron started his career as a journalist with the Los Angeles Times, then was founding president of Ticketmaster Online. That job segued into the chairman’s job of Ticketmaster/Citysearch. He later ran the interactive operations of USA Network and was founding president of the label-backed music retailer MusicNet.
