TLA spins int’l filmfest DVD’s

'Suicide,' 'Possible' among first releases

HOLLYWOOD — TLA Releasing is launching the Intl. Film Festival series on DVD and VHS, covering films that played in fests including Berlin, Toronto, Cannes, New York and Montreal but did not get a wider release.

“Thousands of films are screened at film festivals all over the world but only 100 or so actually find a U.S. distributor,” said Ray Murray, TLA prexy and artistic director of the Philadelphia Film Festival. “We found this a perfect opportunity to help bring more attention for these quality films. We’ve selected films from Japan, Poland, Spain, Brazil, Italy and Germany, many of them audience award winners and festival favorites.

Pics due to be released this year include Japanese helmer Shion Sono’s 2002 hit “Suicide Club” (Jisatsu Circle) and Sandra Werneck’s “Possible Loves” (Amores Possiveis), the 2001 Sundance Jury Prize winner in Latin American Cinema.
