MADRID — Production and facilities company MediaPro has won a public tender to build and manage Barcelona’s 50 million euros ($56 million) flagship production hub, the Ca l’Arano Audiovisual Production Center.
The Center will house editing and post-prod suites, sound studios, facilities companies, offices and classrooms for courses run by Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University.
MediaPro will take a two-thirds stake in an as-yet-unnamed joint venture with municipal development company 22@bcn. MediaPro will then handle the Center’s administration.
The Ca l’Arano Center represents an increasingly typical mesh of public incentive coin and private initiative as the Catalan regional government and Barcelona municipal authorities prioritize film and TV as strategic growth industries.
Ca l’Arano is skedded to open in summer 2006.
