Gemstar-TV Guide Intl. has hired Christine Levesque to take over as executive VP of communications, marketing and government affairs, a new post.
“I’ll get involved in all aspects of rebuilding the TV Guide brand,” said Levesque, whose responsibilities include the magazine and its varied spinoffs such as the TV Guide Channel, TV Guide Interactive, VCR Plus and TV Guide On Screen.
Levesque’s appointment follows Gemstar-TV Guide’s naming of Brian Urban as chief financial officer and Ian Aaron as president of the TV Guide Television Group.
$45 million loss
TV Guide magazine’s declining circulation and the financial problems of TV Guide Channel and TV Guide Interactive led to an overall loss of $45 million in the company’s first-quarter results, reported May 16.
The company fired its founder and CEO Henry Yuen six weeks ago and is still under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission over the way it kept its books from 1999 to 2002.
Levesque spent the past nine years as senior VP of communications and marketing for Chuck Dolan’s Rainbow Media Holdings, which includes the cable networks AMC, WE: Women’s Entertainment and IFC.
Before that, she worked in politics, serving as a member of the Clinton/Gore press-advance team and as a press aide to Dianne Feinstein during her first run for U.S. Senate.
