Former MSG prexy joins marketing agency

Gutkowski to help CSMG grow into sports, entertainment co.

Bob Gutkowski, former president of Madison Square Garden, has joined CSMG, which represents and markets athletes, as vice chairman.

Among the athletes on the Chicago-based CSMG’s roster are Donovan McNabb, quarterback of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, pitcher Randy Johnson of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks and Michael Finley of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. Lou Piniella, manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, is also a client.

Gutkowski, who’ll work out of New York, said, “One of my jobs will be to help CSMG grow into a full-service sports and entertainment company.”

Created group

After four years as president of Madison Square Garden, Gutkowski created the Marquee Group in 1996, which began with representation of athletes and branched out into showbiz with the pickup of Tollin-Robbins Entertainment and of companies that create and produce sports events.

Gutkowski said he’ll be in the marketplace to buy similar companies for CSMG. To get the financing for such purchases, Gutkowski will seek investors to put up the money.

Gutkowski reports to chairman-CEO Alan Nero and prexy-chief operating officer and Thomas M. King.
