Most people would not necessarily link showbiz with the Olympics.
But the ethical cloud hanging over the U.S. Olympic Committee should make Hollywood uneasy, especially given the billions NBC has shelled out for television rights.
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., called a Congressional hearing after USOC chief executive Lloyd Ward was accused of trying to steer Pan American Games business to his brother’s company. Several NBC execs attended the hearing, which was marked by the same infighting that plagues the committee in general.
For the integrity of the Games themselves, not to mention NBC’s investment, the committee needs to recognize its responsibilities and act accordingly.
