‘Chi’ Beebe’s baby

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

There is only one director of photography on the film Chicago: Dion Beebe. In your Eye on the Oscars article (Daily Variety, Jan. 10) featuring directors and cinematographers, your description of our involvement as Broadway theatrical lighting designers gives the wrong impression that we were responsible for Mr. Beebe’s work. This is untrue.

We collaborated with him at all times in creating a theatrical look to the musical numbers and worked as a part of his team. This was a very successful relationship, as can be seen in the film. We regret any misleading impression we have given in the article.
