A court in Rome has ruled that MGM Intl. does not have the right to sue former Italian movie magnate Vittorio Cecchi Gori’s Finmavi, the beleaguered Florentine producer’s company said Friday.
In its suit, filed in October, MGM claimed that the financially troubled Cecchi Gori group owes the U.S. major over E1 million ($1.15 million).
MGM has also been ordered to pay the legal fees.
For many years Italy’s leading producer, distributor and exhibitor, Vittorio Cecchi Gori is trying to make a come-back after disastrous financial setbacks. At this year’s Cannes Film Festival the producer made headlines vowing to make films again, including a biopic telling his own story.
