Columnist-turned-candidate Arianna Huffington ended her bid to be California governor on Tuesday.
Making the announcement on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” Huffington said she planned to focus her energies on helping Gov. Gray Davis defeat the recall vote on Oct. 7.
“I’m pulling out, and I’m going to concentrate all my time and energy in the next week working to defeat the recall because I realize that’s the only way to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Huffington said.
Huffington never polled out of single digits as a candidate. Also, since many of her supporters have always opposed the recall, it’s doubtful the announcement will affect the recall vote.
In the replacement election, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante stands to attract most Huffington voters. Actor Schwarzenegger has widened his lead over Bustamante in most recent polls.
