NEW YORK — Andrea Thompson has resigned as the primary news anchor of CNN Headline News.
Thompson, who became a regular on “NYPD Blue” in 1997 playing Detective Jill Kirkendall, generated reams of headlines in April when CNN announced she was taking over the Headline News job after only a brief apprenticeship as a general-assignment reporter for KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, N.M. She had resigned her role on “NYPD Blue” in 2000 to take the KRQE job in a career change that also caused a stir.
CNN has named Sophia Choi, who joined Headline News five months ago, as Thompson’s replacement.
Thompson was unavailable for comment. In a press release, CNN quoted her as saying that she has “decided that it is time for me to make a change in my daily professional life.” The release made no mention of “NYPD Blue” or any other movie or TV show in which Thompson appeared before her stint on KRQE.
