‘Survivor’ set for 5th round

Season 4 holding strong numbers

Producers are setting their sightson locations in Central America, South America and Asia for the next installment of “Survivor.”

CBS on Tuesday officially picked up the fifth edition of “Survivor”; show will tape this summer for a fall premiere. Announcement comes as the franchise’s fourth edition, “Survivor: Marquesas,” continues to outperform last fall’s “Survivor: Africa.”

After four episodes, “Survivor: Marquesas” is averaging a 9.2 rating among adults 18-49, up 8% from “Survivor: Africa” (8.5). “Marquesas” is also up 9% with viewers (22.47 million vs. 20.67 million), up 10% with adults 25-54 (10.2 vs. 9.3) and up 4% with adults 18-34 (8.1 vs. 7.8).

Having originally debuted in summer 2000, “Survivor” remains the top-rated reality series in primetime.

Exec producer Mark Burnett is currently scouting spots for the fifth “Survivor.” Burnett and CBS have also already started casting the next “Survivor” around the country.
