Star TV cancels library pact

Asian satcaster to handle distrib through Fortune Star

HONG KONG — Asian satcaster Star TV has severed its film library distribution contract with Hong Kong-based Media Asia and associated companies including Mega Star Distribution.

Star will handle the distribution of its library through subsid Fortune Star.

Star owns the world’s largest contemporary Chinese-language movie library with worldwide rights in perpetuity to product from Golden Harvest, Golden Princess and D&B.

Star exec VP of programming Steve Askew said, “With 25,000 hours of original content per year, particularly with the recent addition of 700 hours of annual production for (its new Chinese channel) Xing Kong Wei Shi, Star has truly established itself as the content powerhouse in Asia.”

Fortune Star is headed by Peter Poon, formerly deputy general manager of Media Asia distribution.
