“Sesame Street” is meeting the letters Q, V and C.
For the first time, educational merchandise from show’s production shingle, Sesame Workshop, will be available on the shopping net.
Wares from “Sesame Street,” “Dragon Tales,” and “Sagwa the Chinese Cat” will debut on QVC on Aug. 22 in a special hourlong program, which will also feature “Sesame Street’s” Elmo and Gordon entertaining children at QVC’s Pennsylvania headquarters. Arrangement seems to be the nonprofit org’s latest effort to raise coin, coming on the heels of the sale of its stake in Noggin to Nickelodeon (Daily Variety, Aug. 8).
Liz Kalodner, org’s general manager of global licensed products and TV sales, told Daily Variety that the timing is coincidence. “We’re always interested in talking to our consumers, and we’re certainly interested in selling product simply because it funds the other things we do,” she said.
“QVC is a great way to talk about Sesame Workshop and to talk about us as a nonprofit: All the money we raise goes directly back into research, outreach programs and TV show development.”
