ProSieben files ‘Report’

Kirch collapse limited H'wood fare

BERLIN — German web ProSieben has picked up terrestrial TV rights to “Minority Report,” one of its first major acquisitions since the insolvency of Kirch Media, which owns the web’s parent company, ProSiebenSat 1.

Hollywood films are a staple of ProSieben’s youth-oriented programming, but it is facing increased competition from leading broadcaster RTL TV, which raised the ante earlier this year by acquiring a huge package of films from Warner Bros. including “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

While not directly affected by the insolvency of Kirch Media, ProSieben did depend on the group for much of its high-profile Hollywood fare.

The Steven Spielberg hit opened in German theaters Oct. 3, raking in $6.1 million at the box office in its first weekend.
