Co.'s prepare to roll out VOD in Europe

LONDON –- U.K.-based video-on-demand specialist ON Demand Group and U.S.-based SeaChange International, which provides digital video servers to the television industry, have inked a strategic partnership to further develop VOD across Europe.

Under the deal, ON Demand will exclusively promote and use SeaChange’s VOD systems and software. As part of the deal, SeaChange will also invest £1.5 million ($2.3 million) in ON Demand and has agreed to further investments of up to $13.3 million if required.

ON Demand is responsible for the launch and ongoing management of U.K. cable near VOD service, Front Row Television, which launched four years ago and currently has 2 million digital customers. Company also launched Spanish pay-per-view service, Mirador, in 2000, which has 300,000 analog and digital cable customers.

SeaChange has over 300,000 VOD streams deployed across North America’s largest cable operators including, AT&T Broadband, Adelphia, Cablevision, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable, reaching a population of more than 14 million basic cable subscribers.
