NBC tops with ‘West Wing’

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

LOS ANGELES — ABC’s “My Wife and Kids” and NBC’s “The West Wing” were the standout performers on the opening Wednesday of the season, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

“My Wife” dominated its 8 p.m. hour with an hour-long episode (prelim 14.4 million, 6.0/17 in adults 18-49), up an impressive 9% from its year-ago 60-minute opener.

Net’s season preem of the second edition of “The Bachelor” finished in a virtual tie with Fox’s “Fastlane” for third in 18-49 (prelim 4.0/10). And at 10, new medical drama “MDs” didn’t do much (prelim 7.9m, 3.4/9 in A18-49), but it defeated CBS’ own medical hour, “Presidio Med” (prelim 8.9m, 3.2/8) in 18-49.

“West Wing” easily led its two hours with 18 million viewers and a 6.6/17 in 18-49. “Ed” kicked off the night with a third-place 3.4/10 in 18-49.

Fox’s programs held up well, with “Cedric the Entertainer” (prelim 3.9/11 in A18-49) again delivering slightly higher ratings than its “Bernie Mac” lead-in (3.8/11), and “Fastlane” (4.1/10) building on “Cedric.”

The season finale of “Big Brother 3” (prelim 12.9m, 5.5/14) held its hour on CBS with adults 18-34.

NBC won the night in both adults 18-49 and total viewers.
