'NOW' to preem Jan. 18

Veteran journalist and documentarian Bill Moyers will anchor “NOW With Bill Moyers,” an hourlong weekly news program on PBS, beginning Jan. 18.

Show, announced Monday at the Television Critics Assn. Tour in Pasadena, Calif., will include documentary reporting, interviews and commentary on various issues. PBS has committed to a 50-week season.

“Americans are saturated with events in the headlines, but in this pounding news cycle, it is hard to grasp the bigger picture and the larger forces driving daily developments,” Moyers said. ” ‘NOW’ will report on the reality behind and beyond news-making events.”

Moyers will be exec producer of the program, which is produced by Moyers’ Public Affairs Television and presented by Thirteen/WNET for PBS. “NOW With Bill Moyers” also will draw on the editorial resources of NPR News.

Flexible in format from week to week, “NOW” will be anchored from Thirteen/WNET’s Gotham studios. Former ABC News producer John Siceloff will lead the production team. Judith Davidson Moyers and Judy Doctoroff O’Neill are co-execs in charge for Public Affairs TV.
