PARIS — Reed Midem, organizer of the MipTV television market, has advanced the date of 2003’s event to March.
While this year’s MipTV kicks off April 15, next year’s will run March 24-28, Reed TV topper Michael Weatherseed told Daily Variety
Meanwhile, the 2003 MipDoc, the two-day documentary market which precedes the main event, will run March 22-23.
“We asked participants what dates would suit them best, and there was general agreement that bringing the mart forward was in most people’s interests,” Weatherseed said.
“When people start negotiations at MipTV they are often unable to complete deals before the summer vacations, this gives them an extra couple of weeks.”
“As for American clients, it gives them a little more space before the L.A. screenings,” he added.
Weatherseed said it was “too early to say” what kind of a turnout the mart would have this year, although the number of companies already down to attend was on a par with last year’s figures, despite the industry-wide slump.
News of the date change co-incided with the appointment of Arthur Schweitzer
as senior VP of Reed Midem’s television division, heading the sales team at Reed Midem’s New York office.
Until recently Schweitzer was VP, intl. sales of Castle Hill Productions.
