Granada pacts with Videomedia

Pair to produce formats in Spain, Portugal

LONDON – U.K. media group Granada has inked its fourth European formats co-production deal with Spanish indie producer Videomedia.

Deal gives Videomedia, which has a subsidiary in Portugal that is also covered in the agreement, exclusive first option on Granada’s formats and the opportunity to produce them for a broadcaster in their own territories. In return, Granada will produce programs with Videomedia, passing on its expertise and knowledge.

Granada’s goal is to create a network of partnerships with producers across the Continent. It now has direct links in Holland, Belgium, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, Spain and Portugal.

Previous partnership deals have yielded a string of commissions this year, including: “Home on There Own” and “Mr. Right” for TeVe Holland; “Tarrant on TV” for Nordisk Film and “Stars and their Doubles” for Glem TV.

Videomedia began by adapting international entertainment formats such as “Family Fortunes” and “The Price is Right.” It then expanded operations to talk shows, documentaries and commercials and started creating its own formats for the three main Spanish networks TVE, Antena 3 and Tele 5. At present, it’s producing one of Spain’s most popular drama series “Hospital Central.”
