‘GMA’ gaining in key demos

Ayemcast up 7%, but still behind Peacock's 'Today'

NBC News’ “Today” remains the front-runner in the ayem race, but “GMA” is gaining in key demos.

“Today” averaged 5.9 million viewers, a dip of 7% from the same week last year, but still 1.4 million ahead of ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” according to Nielsen estimates for the week of Jan. 21-25. With an average of 4.5 million viewers, “GMA” was up 7% from the same week last year.

In the key news demo of adults 25-54, “GMA” gained 13% from the same week last year (1.8/14), while “Today” dipped 20% (2.4/19). The week marked the closest margin in the demo rating for the season — a gap that represents about 740,000 viewers.

CBS News’ The Early Show” averaged 2.5 million total viewers, a 7% gain from the same week last year. Among adults 25-54, “Early” (0.9/8) was down a tick.

Meanwhile, in the Sunday morning public affairs derby, NBC News’ “Meet the Press With Tim Russert” again led the pack on Jan. 27, attracting 4.1 million viewers. ABC’s “This Week” averaged 3.1 million, CBS’ “Face the Nation” 2.7 million and Fox’s “News Sunday” 1.6 million.
