MIAMI — Fox Cable Networks Group has upped David Sternberg to senior VP of network operations and business development and general manager of U.S. networks Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Espanol.
He was formerly VP-general manager of Fox Sports Intl.
Sternberg also has assumed immediate oversight of Fox Pan American Sports, a venture with Hicks Muse Tate & Furst and Liberty Media announced last month that merged the programming assets of the now-defunct Pan-American Sports Network into Fox’s Spanish-lingo operations, including panregional net Fox Sports Latin America.
Sternberg reports to Bob Thompson, president of Fox Sports Cable Networks and Fox Sports Intl.
Sternberg is charged with expanding the U.S. networks. The 24-hour net Fox Sports World, dedicated to international sporting events like Premier League soccer and rugby, currently reaches over 13.9 million U.S. cable and satellite homes, up from 5.1 million 18 months ago.
Now under the Fox Pan American Sports banner, U.S. Spanish-lingo net Fox Sports World Espanol is seen in 4.7 million homes and available to more than 40% of the U.S. Hispanic audience.
Sternberg will assist Fox’s partners in managing Fox Sports Latin America, which has 11.6 million subs regionwide, excluding Brazil.
He retains his general management duties for Fox Sports Middle East, Fox Sports Israel and Fox Sports Eastern Europe — all services wholly owned by Fox — and will continue to oversee Fox’s collaboration with Global Television in Fox Sports World Canada, launched last year.
