Disney Channel to launch in Scandinavia

MTG signs exclusive carriage deal

AMSTERDAM — Scandinavian media group Modern Times Group has inked an exclusive DTH agreement to carry the Disney Channel on its Viasat digital platform.

The channel, which will be tailored for local audiences in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, will be made available to 450,000 premium pay TV subscribers at the beginning of 2003.

Line-up of Disney family fare will include movies such as “Tarzan,” “Snow White,” “Mulan” and “Beauty and the Beast.” It will be the 30th channel on the Viasat digital platform, which already has 13 of its own and 16 international channels.

In a related story, MTG and Walt Disney Television International have extended an exclusive agreement with distrib arm Buena Vista International Television to include paybox TV1000 channels in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The agreement had already included Viasat’s TV3, ZTV and 3+ outlets in Scandinavia and the Baltic States.
