World Brief

Pubcaster Doordarshan (DD) will launch its digital terrestrial television transmission service in June.

The service will begin in four cities, costing around $70 for a decoder and $3 for an antenna. DD plans to beam five of its channels, adding seven commercial channels after six months.

Pubcaster has appointed Crest Communications, backed by Shyam Ramanna, and Moving Pictures (India), backed by Ramesh Sharma, to reorganize DD channels for the digital terrestrial transmission bouquet.
