‘Court’ verdict is disappointing

NBC's 'Ellie' improves on previous week's ratings

HOLLYWOOD — There’s already some disorder in ABC’s “The Court.”

Premiere of the Sally Field drama posted disappointing numbers Tuesday night for the Alphabet web, coming in third place at 10 p.m. among total viewers (10.1 million) and adults 18-49 (3.5 rating/9 share). “Dharma & Greg” (2.4/7) and “Spin City” (2.9/8) also flirted with adults 18-49 series lows for an original episode.

News wasn’t all bad, however. “Court” maintained all of its adults 18-49 audience in the second half hour, meaning viewers that found the show elected to stay rather than bail out midway through. “Court” also beat out CBS’ “Judging Amy” among most young male demos.

‘Richter’ high on scale

Fox, meanwhile, was encouraged by week two results for “Andy Richter Controls the Universe,” which won its timeslot among adults 18-49 (4.4/12). “Andy Richter” was down just 10% from its premiere numbers last week.

At 9 p.m., Fox’s “24” continued its upward March climb. Actioner posted a 4.6/11 with adults 18-49 and attracted 9.5 million viewers — its second highest audience (only behind the show’s premiere).

NBC saw much-maligned laffer “Watching Ellie” halt its bleeding. “Ellie” posted a 4.2/11 among adults 18-49, up 17% over last week. “Ellie” also improved on its lead-in, a repeat “Frasier” (3.8/11), by 11%.

Fox won the night among adults 18-49 (4.7/12), followed by NBC (4.3/11), CBS (3.8/10), ABC (3.4/9), WB (1.8/5) and UPN (0.9/2). CBS was tops for the nights with viewers (14.5 million), followed by NBC (10.2 million), ABC and Fox (tied at 9.3 million), WB (4 million) and UPN (2 million).
