Auds fall in love with ABC’s ‘Bachelor’

Viewers also go ga ga over 'Baby Bob'

New ABC reality skein “The Bachelor” is off to a promising start, taking second place among adults 18-49 in its timeslot Monday night.

Bachelor” posted a 4.0 rating/9 share in the demo, behind CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond”/”Yes Dear” combo (7.3/17) but ahead of NBC, which posted a 3.6/9 for the hour with “Just Shoot Me” and “The Colin Quinn Show.”

Meanwhile, viewers like their babies — and they like ’em talking. CBS’ “Baby Bob” was solid in its second outing, averaging a 5.0/12 with adults 18-49 (holding on to all of its “King of Queens” lead-in) and posting 14.2 million viewers. Show was up 6% with adults 18-34 from its debut.

The night’s other midseason entries, NBC’s “Colin Quinn Show” (2.7/6 adults 18-49, 5.3 million viewers) and Fox’s “American Embassy” (2.4/6 adults 18-49, 5.7 million viewers) continued to decline. Both posted their lowest numbers yet.

“Everybody Loves Raymond” was the night’s top performer with adults 18-49 (8.1/19) and viewers (22 million). CBS won the night with adults 18 to 49 (5.3/13) and viewers (14.8 million).

Back to “The Bachelor”: Show gave ABC its best Monday night perf among total viewers (8.6 million) and adults 18-49 (3.5/9) since January. ABC is also encouraged by “Bachelor’s” half-hour gains; skein bumped up 19% from its first half hour to its second. “Bachelor” also built on an “America’s Funniest Home Videos” repeat lead-in by 11%.
