BERLIN — Jan Mojto, programming chief at Germany’s financially troubled Kirch Group, is ankling to set up his own production company.
New outfit, to be called Eos Entertainment, will be allied with other German and European production outfits, including Berlin’s TeamWorx, which produced last year’s Cold War film “The Tunnel.”
Mojto is setting up the company with Klaus Zimmermann and Eric Welbers, fellow Kirch hands in charge of international film production and acquisitions at Munich-based Kirch Group.
Mojto, deputy chairman of the group’s free TV and production unit KirchMedia, is expected to continue producing TV projects for KirchMedia’s Beta Film licensing division.
KirchMedia likely will shutter most of its own production facilities following Mojto’s exit.
Move is expected to be announced at next month’s Mip TV market in Cannes.
Mojto, who was named chairman of KirchMedia’s supervisory board in December, has indicated in the past that he would leave the firm after its merger with its ProSiebenSat 1 TV subsidiary in June.
Those merger plans were shelved Wednesday due to the Kirch Group’s financial problems.
