When the creators of “Will & Grace” held auditions for “Good Morning Miami” they were expecting grueling casting sessions.
“We wrote the script for an earthy, approachable and attractive woman,” says co-showrunner David Kohan of the person to play the hairstylist Dylan Messinger for the nation’s lowest-rated morning show. “We included a note saying, ‘Good luck in casting.'”
Yet, everyone instantly agreed on Ashley Williams, 23, the first actress to audition for the part. The recent Boston U. graduate, and sister of fellow thespian Kimberly Williams, had a prior role on the sudser “As the World Turns.”
Onscreen, Dylan seems oblivious to the heart palpitations she inspires in Jake Silver, the show’s new producer, who upon meeting Dylan accepts the daunting task of turning around the troubled show.
“I think that’s what is so great about Dylan,” Williams says. “She has no idea of what she’s doing to people.”
