A leather and sequined clad crowd cheered wildly as The Sopranos Michael Imperioli and Drea De Matteo took their posts on stage at the Grand Olympic Auditorium Wednesday night as hosts of the “VH1 Big in 2002 Awards.” The Big Awards celebrate the year’s most memorable occasions, feting everything from pop cultures hottest hits to the stars biggest misses. It’s a night of “great music and a lot of fun,” promised Imperioli.
After crowd-pleasing performances by Bon Jovi, Norah Jones, John Mayer and Christina Aguilera, homage was paid to hip-hop pioneers Run DMC and the late Jam Master Jay. The tribute, in form of a Run DMC medley, got the audience out of their seats and dancing, as they sang along with performers including Kid Rock and Chuck D.
The Big winners of the night included: Norah Jones for best female newcomer; Eddie Griffin for the years’ best movie spy; Vin Diesel for “It” bald guy and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” for “the little movie that could.”
Presenters included: Lucy Liu, Denise Richards, Ray Liotta, Christina Applegate, Andy Dick and Frankie Muniz.
The show will air Sunday, December 15th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1.
