Thesp fills in for Loudon at Lincoln Center prod'n
Marian Seldes replaced the ailing Dorothy Loudon as the extravagant Carlotta Vance in Lincoln Center Theater’s production of “Dinner at Eight.”
At the Tavern on the Green party Thursday night, Seldes deftly fielded a rude question: Why wasn’t she the first choice? “I thought they’d ask,” the actress answered. “But they didn’t ask.” Eventually someone did, of course.
Despite less than three weeks of rehearsals and previews, Seldes fit right into the seasoned cast of Gotham thesps that included Christine Ebersole, Kevin Conway, Byron Jennings and Joe Grifasi, who called it “the least affected opening night. These actors didn’t get into a tizzy. They’re all real pros.”
