‘La Mancha’ revelers take on the World

Thesps delight in daring dancing

NEW YORK — After slogging through Gotham’s first snowfall to see Brian Stokes Mitchell and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in “Man of La Mancha,” first-nighters were ready to party at the World on Thursday night.

The dance floor also got a good workout from the macho “La Mancha” thesps, happy to be on firm dance-ground after a night of scaling the metallic heights of Paul Brown’s muscle-building set.

“Dangerous?” Choreographer Luis Perez was aghast at the suggestion. “I did all the stunts myself, first, and my wife would kill me if I tried something I couldn’t do.”

Mitchell, who makes his entrance coming down a suspended 40-ft. metal staircase, also brushed off the suggestion of danger. “Except, maybe, in that moment just before the stairs came together — that was a little daunting,” he admitted.
