An intimate crowd of groupies turned out for Fox Searchlight’s special screening of “The Banger Sisters” on Tuesday night. Co-stars Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush were both present to talk about their comic turns.
“This script’s got heart and brain. And it was Goldie (Hawn) and Susan,” said Rush, who could not stop praising his co-stars.
“I don’t get to do comedies very often,” said Sarandon. “It’s much more difficult to write a funny comedy, and when it doesn’t work, it’s more painful than a mediocre whodunit.”
Sarandon’s daughter and co-star Eva Amurri was unable to attend, but Mom swelled with parental pride at her performance. “She auditioned, and when she did the read-though, they made her part bigger because she was just so funny. I didn’t have to worry about her.”
Guests at the Tribeca Grand Hotel included Marcia Gay Harden and Amy Sedaris, bearing her signature cupcakes.
