BAFTA/LA’s garden delights

British consul general hosted event

HOLLYWOOD — The Brits mixed a little bit of business with a lot of fun Thursday evening at BAFTA/LA’s annual garden party.

British consul general Peter Hunt for the first time hosted the event at his Hancock Park home.

The evening’s silent auction and raffle raised money for scholarships and to help South Central L.A. kids.

In the spring, for example, Ian McKellen read parts of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” to kids at downtown L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art and then told them how that part of the story was filmed.

Among those mingling at the garden party were Dexter Fletcher, Emily Mortimer, Sophia Myles, Alessandro Nivola, David Suchet and Steve Valentine.
