John Kane, who served in numerous managerial capacities throughout the industry, died March 27 in Mesa, Ariz. He was 84.
After serving as a Marine in World War II, he returned to his native Philadelphia and began a long career at Paramount Pictures. He rose through the ranks to become branch manager for Par in Indianapolis, then moved to Detroit to act as branch and district manager of newly formed National General Pictures. When the company folded, Kane took a post as MGM’s Midwest district manager.
He later switched to exhibition as a General Cinema Film buyer and then to MJR theaters in Detroit.
Kane retired to Arizona. He is survived by his wife Terri and a daughter. He was predeceased by a son.
