Comedy producer and writer

John Jay Carsey, longtime comedy producer and writer and husband of TV producer Marcy Carsey, died April 5 of congestive heart failure in Brentwood, Calif., at age 80.

World War II Navy veteran entered TV during the early 1950s as a unit manager for “The Steve Allen Show” which eventually led to production duties on “The Tonight Show” beginning with Allen, then Jack Paar and finally Johnny Carson. His duties included working with comedians and helping them shape their material for that evening’s show.

He married Marcy in 1969 and relocated to Los Angeles as a writer on “Laugh-In” and several other comedy and variety shows.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, three grandchildren and a sister.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made in his name to: Boch Center for the Performing Arts, 13 Steeple Street, P.O. Box 1997, Mashpee, MA 02649-1997.
