Williams sets NBC sitcom

Skein focuses on B'way star who returns to hometown

Vanessa L. Williams is developing a half-hour comedy series with NBC Studios for the Peacock network.

Deal is for Williams to star as a Broadway actress who returns to her small hometown to teach high school drama and raise her children.

Project would mark the first leading TV series role for Williams, a bona fide Broadway star who most recently starred in “Into the Woods” in L.A. and New York.

Her feature credits include “Shaft,” “Soul Food” and “Eraser.”

The actress and recording artist, who is repped by CAA, will co-exec produce the Peacock project, while Adam Belanoff is set to exec produce. ICM-repped Belanoff, whose credits include “Titus,” “What About Joan” and “Cosby,” is writing with Richard Schenkman, who also is producing.

Schenkman, who was repped in the deal by his lawyer David Fox, wrote and directed VH1’s “A Diva’s Christmas Carol,” which starred Williams.
