New troupe skein debuts second only to 'CSI'

Critics may have trashed it, but auds turned out in strong numbers Thursday for a special preview episode of NBC’s “The Rerun Show,” which built on its “Will & Grace” lead-in.

The half-hour short-run series, in which a troupe of comic actors re-enacts scripts from classic sitcoms and douses them with satire and sexual innuendo, placed second at 9:30 to CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in adults 18-49 (4.7/14) and total viewers (9.41 million).

Scores rep NBC’s best in the half-hour since the May sweep.

“Rerun” won its half-hour in adults 18-34 (4.5/14) and placed second to UPN’s “WWE Smackdown!” in teens (2.8/11), building on its “Will & Grace” lead-in in both categories. Compared with Will,” it grew most among male teens (2.2/9 vs. 0.9/4) and men 18-34 (3.8/13 vs. 3.5/13).

Show moves to Tuesday night this week.

Bow of “Rerun” seemed to boost NBC’s entire comedy block as “Friends” grabbed its best 18-49 rating since June 13 (4.4/16) and “Will & Grace” its best since May 23 (4.5/14). In between, “Scrubs” (4.0/13) saw its biggest number since moving to Thursday.

CBS won the night, though, in adults 18-49 (edging out NBC) and total viewers. “CSI” led the way with its highest 18-49 rating (5.4/16) since May 30 and its largest aud (15.63 million) since June 13.
