Johnson news chief at WNBC

Newscast producer with station since 1991

Barbara Johnson has been tapped news director of WNBC, joining the station from WABC.

Johnson will report to Dan Forman, WNBC’s station manager and VP of news. She fills the void created in August when news director Dianne Doctor ankled to head up WCBS.

At WABC since 1991, Johnson climbed up the ranks and was most recently exec producer of the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. Before joining WABC, Johnson was exec producer of WUSA Washington, D.C., overseeing the staff and scripts and assigning news coverage.

Johnson began her career as a producer at KTHV Little Rock, Ark., and also held positions at KOCO Oklahoma City and WCMH Columbus, Ohio.
