Union sez 'Lopez' memo sent out mistakenly
The Screen Actors Guild is considering contract concessions for all off-network shows shot on digital.“We are looking at every show on a case-by-case basis,” said spokeswoman Ilyanne Kichaven, noting SAG has approved such a waiver for the WB’s “Off Centre” with lower AFTRA terms and conditions. SAG has said a memo this week about a similar switch for ABC’s “The George Lopez Show” was sent out mistakenly. Breakdown Services retracted the notification about the waiver on Tuesday, saying the show would be shot under SAG terms. Such waivers mean lower rates for two classes of performers — those who speak five lines or less on a show and background actors. SAG and AFTRA have yet to resolve a three-month-old dispute over which union has the right to organize Fox shows shot on digital. The dispute between the unions involves a 1983 side letter to the union’s basic TV-theatrical contract that allows non-network shows to be shot under AFTRA terms.
