HOLLYWOOD — E! Networks has promoted longtime staffer Barry Nugent, an instrumental player in the network’s Robert Altman-directed rebranding ads, to VP of talent and on-air casting.
In his new post, Nugent oversees all of E! Networks’ celebrity booking operations, on-air casting, wardrobe and makeup, as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with the entertainment industry. He succeeds Sandra Gelfat, who left the job last year.
Nugent reports to Mark Sonnenberg, E! Networks exec VP of entertainment.
“Barry has played an integral role in developing and strengthening our relationship with the Hollywood creative community and has become an invaluable asset to the network,” Sonnenberg said. “His strong industry ties helped us to secure top film and television actors for such recent programming hits as ‘Revealed With Jules Asner’ and our highly praised image campaign directed by film legend Robert Altman.”
Nugent most recently was director of talent relations, a post he has held since 1998. He joined E! in 1991 as an online producer and moved up the ranks to assignment manager of “E! News Daily” (now “E! News Live”) in 1993. As director of talent relations, he has booked such E! series and specs as “Revealed With Jules Asner,” “The Critics Choice Awards,” “TV Tales” and “Live From the Red Carpet.”
He also was responsible for bringing Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver, Ving Rhames, Lisa Kudrow and Eric McCormack aboard the image campaign.
