Exec brings attorney, negotiator skills to new post

Eye vet Deborah Barak has been tapped senior VP of business affairs for CBS Entertainment.

Barak will play a key role in talent negotiations and other business agreements related to series, specs and movies for CBS and studio arm CBS Prods. She’ll report to biz affairs exec VP Harold Brook.

“Debbie’s hands-on experience as an attorney along with her reputation as a skilled negotiator are invaluable assets to the company,” Brook said. “Her background, experience and talents make her uniquely and deservedly qualified to play a such a key role in CBS’ business affairs operation.”

Barak previously served as senior VP of business planning and special projects for CBS, working on new-media deals and co-production agreements. From 1997-2000, she was VP and associate general counsel for the Eye, having been deputy West Coast counsel since 1991.

Before joining CBS in 1985, Barak was an associate at O’Melveny & Myers.
