Prexy sees cultural diversity a top priority for web
CANNES — French-German pubcaster ARTE unveiled ambitious plans to beef up distribution of its product worldwide on Wednesday, thanks to a new catalog of international programming.
Distribution is being led by ARTE France via established partnerships in Europe, Canada, South America and other parts of the world.
ARTE France prexy Jerome Clement said cultural diversity was a top priority for the web, which has co-produced much of its fare, including films from 111 foreign filmmakers including Michael Haneke (“The Piano Player”), Emir Kusturica and Ming-liang Tsai (“The River”).
ARTE’s documentary distribution is also in full swing after amassing 1,500 hours of fare including Michel Viotte’s “From Superman to Spiderman,” a look at the development of comicbook superheroes in the U.S., which has been broadcast in 10 countries.
